Good textbooks give you order, direction and stimulate interest. However, you need to use wisdom as to how much or little time you spend on a given concept. You need to build your children's knowledge from the foundation up in an orderly manner, and yet do it at a pace that matches the children's abilities and interest as opposed to rushing to finish the books by June 5th.
Your goal should be to teach your children what they need to know, and move on only when they are proficient. It is pointless to teach your children division if they
have difficulty with their multiplication facts. On the other hand, there is little
point in doing ten pages of multiplication drill just because they are in the book
if they already know them well. Maybe five review problems a day would be enough to keep them from getting rusty.
